Wanya Reid wants to bring BKFC to Jamaica

Wanya Reid earned his first victory in the BKFC Squared Circle on Friday at BKFC Fight Night Miami.

The 28-year-old Broward County, FL fighter entered the win column with a convincing unanimous decision over Jim Pulgar at the sold-out Vivo! Dolphin Mall in Miami.

Reid’s 0-1 record entering fight night could be at least partly excused because it was the result of Reid making his BKFC debut against Tony “Loco” Soto, who was 3-0 at the time and is currently the No. 2 contender in the stacked BKFC lightweight division.

Regardless of who Reid was fighting, he insisted there was no way he was leaving Miami without his first BKFC victory on his resume.

“This was a really important fight for me, because I needed to show that I’m a legitimate fighter and that I can win in this organization,” Reid says.

“I needed to win to prove that I belong on the roster.”

Mission accomplished, but Reid is just warming up.

Reid has big goals with BKFC, including bringing the Squared Circle to his home country of Jamaica, where he was born and spent much of his childhood.

“That would be amazing,” he says.

“I know BKFC could be very popular in Jamaica, and I’d really love to be a part of it.”
