Steve “Tomahawk” Townsel has one word to describe 2023 – “growth.”

Townsel was victorious in his first fight of the year when he knocked out Chris Sarro at BKFC 38 in April. The battle-tested cruiserweight contender was defeated in his second fight of 2023 when he was stopped by Dillion Winemiller at BKFC 45 in June.

“Unfortunately my growth came through a couple personal losses and a professional loss, but that’s how we learn, man. We celebrate our victories and we learn from our losses,” the Fort Pierce, FL fighter says.

“I learn every single time I step in there, whether it’s in the ring or when I’m training,” he adds. “You can look back at every one of my fights, and I’ve elevated my game each time. I’m a student of the game, and I’ve still got a lot to learn.”

Townsel returns to the Squared Circle for the seventh time against Leo Bercier (3-1) at BKFC 57 on Feb. 2 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL, LIVE on The BKFC App. Townsel is hoping to be a little more patient than usual in his next fight – which he admits will be a challenging task against the hard-charging Bercier.

“I respect Leo a lot – I’m honored to share the Squared Circle with him,” Townsel says. “I want us to put on an awesome show, but I don’t want it to turn into a brawl. Obviously everybody knows that if you want a brawl, I’m your guy, but I’ve grown as a fighter. I want to be a smarter fighter, a little more calculated and a little more patient.”
