Sydney Smith answers when opportunity knocks

Sydney “Sundance” Smith answers when opportunity knocks.

It should come as no surprise that the 32-year-old Virginia fighter happily signed on the dotted line when BKFC Matchmaker extraordinaire Nate Shook offered her a fight with the undefeated Christine Vicens (2-0), the No. 4 contender in the loaded BKFC women’s flyweight division, at BKFC 57 on Feb. 2 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL, LIVE on The BKFC App.

“I feel very blessed,” Smith says as she gears up for her third trip to the BKFC Squared Circle.

“I’m very thankful to be on the first numbered BKFC card of the year. I got the call twice since my last fight to take a fight on short notice but they didn’t materialize, so I’m just excited and ready to go.”

Smith is hungry to get back in the win column after suffering the first defeat of her BKFC career – a decision loss to top British contender Melanie Shah at BKFC 48 in August.

“I don’t feel like I was really myself in my last fight, and I think that (Vicens) is going to be banking on me putting on that type of performance again,” Smith says.

“But we’ve been working really hard, so we’ve got a few things up our sleeve.”
