“Why Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship?”

John Dodson has been asked that question dozens of times since it was announced that he signed with the fastest growing combat sport in the world.

The answer, he’s repeated, is simple.

“Pure violence,” the former UFC title challenger said.

“I want to show people that I’ve still got that destructive power. But not only that; I want to bring life and energy back into fighting. That’s why people love BKFC, and I want to provide that mayhem.”

First up on Dodson’s dance card is fellow UFC vet Ryan “Baby Face” Benoit. They throw down Saturday at BKFC 28 at Rio Rancho Events Center in Dodson’s hometown of Albuquerque, NM, LIVE on the BKFC app

Benoit is a nine-time UFC vet, with a win over Bellator MMA champ Sergio Pettis and a razor-sharp, split-decision loss to current UFC flyweight champ Brandon Moreno.

Dodson doesn’t seem worried heading into Saturday’s action.

“He’s probably thinking that I’m old, out of shape and that I can’t be doing this too much longer. But we already know his concerns; his battle is with the scale first, then he’s gotta fight me in my hometown, in elevation.

“But, not only that, he’s got to be able to hit me.”

Dodson insists he isn’t looking past Benoit, but he has bigger goals in the BKFC Squared Circle.

“I want to be a champion, whether it’s at 125 or 135,” Dodson said. “I want to secure that 125-pound championship first because I’ve promised people a flyweight title under my belt, and I want to secure that as quickly as possible.”
